The position involves commanding or supervising operations of marine vehicles, jet skis, banana boats to and from the island of Saipan and Managaha.
Position responsibilities:
1. Greet and assist all customers.
2. Monitor tour group activities to ensure compliance with safety regulations and provide aid in emergencies, such as administering first aid or directing emergency evacuations, and communicate with company officers and the Safety & Health Officer.
3. Rescue distressed people using rescue techniques and equipment.
4. Contact emergency medical personnel in cases of serious injury.
5. Examine injured people and administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation if necessary, using available medical supplies and equipment.
6. Warn recreational participants about inclement weather, unsafe areas, or illegal conduct.
7. Complete and maintain records of weather and beach conditions, emergency medical treatments, and other marine casualties and reporting requirements.
8. Instruct participants in swimming or other recreational activities and provide safety precaution information.
9. Operate underwater recovery units.
10. Assist with staff selection, training, and supervision.
11. Ensure the safe use of equipment, such as life jackets and jet skis.
12. Participate in recreational demonstrations to entertain resort guests.
13. Address customer queries regarding optional tours and other onshore/island and water activities.
14. Provide directions and relevant information to customers.
15. Communicate in foreign languages with visitors.
16. Direct courses and speeds of ships based on knowledge of local winds, weather, water depths, tides, currents, and hazards.
17. Prevent ships under navigational control from engaging in unsafe operations.
18. Serve as a vessel's docking master upon arrival at a port or berth.
19. Consult maps, charts, weather reports, or navigation equipment to determine and direct ship movements.
20. Steer and operate vessels using radios, depth finders, radars, lights, buoys, or lighthouses.
21. Operate ship-to-shore radios to exchange information needed for ship operations.
22. Dock or undock vessels, maneuvering through narrow spaces such as locks.
23. Inspect vessels to ensure efficient and safe operation and conformance to regulations.
24. Read gauges to verify sufficient levels of hydraulic fluid, air pressure, or oxygen.
25. Report any violations of federal or state pilotage laws to the appropriate authorities.
26. Provide assistance in maritime rescue operations.
27. Signal passing vessels using whistles, flashing lights, flags, or radios.
28. Measure water depths using depth-measuring equipment.
29. Signal crew members or deckhands to rig tow lines, open or close gates or ramps, or pull guard chains across entries.
30. Maintain boats and equipment on board, including engines, winches, navigational systems, fire extinguishers, and life preservers.
31. Maintain records of daily activities, including personnel reports, ship positions and movements, ports of call, weather and sea conditions, pollution control efforts, and cargo or passenger status.
32. Advise ships' masters on harbor rules and customs procedures.
33. Observe the loading or unloading of cargo or equipment to ensure handling and storage are performed according to specifications.
34. Calculate sightings of land using electronic sounding devices and following contour lines on charts.
35. Learn to operate new technology systems and procedures through instruction, simulators, or models.
36. Direct or coordinate crew members or workers performing activities such as loading or unloading cargo, steering vessels, operating engines, or operating and maintaining ship equipment.
37. Arrange for ships to be fueled, restocked with supplies, or repaired.
38. Supervise crews in cleaning or maintaining decks, superstructures, or bridges.
39. Purchase supplies or equipment as needed.
40. Tow and maneuver barges or signal tugboats to tow barges to destinations.
41. Perform various marine duties, such as checking for oil spills or other pollutants around ports or harbors or patrolling beaches.
42. Assign watches or living quarters to crew members.
43. Interview and hire crew members.
44. Conduct safety drills, such as man overboard or fire drills.
45. Oversee the use of drones for inspection and maintenance of hard-to-reach parts of the vessel.
46. Keep informed of shut-down and emergency evacuation procedures.
47. Serve as liaison between Adventure Guides, Customer Service Specialists, Lifeguards, Deckhands, Boat Mechanics, and Boat Captains.
48. Contacts emergency medical personnel in cases of serious injury.
49. Perform any other assigned tasks or duties.
